Charles III Square, at the intersection of the most important thoroughfares, was to have been the central hub of the king\u2019s new town. Inspired by strict neoclassical canons, the king’s urban planners designed it as a site on which to hold military parades. The arcades and neoclassical fountain in the southern part of the square are interesting, as is the splendid Laureano House.<\/p>\n
From this central point, with an axial perspective and on an orthogonal axis from the sea to the mountains, straight roads were structured with a minimal adaptation to the relief.
